A huge well done to Lisa and Melanie, who represented the Museum in the ‘Walk for Wellbeing’ last Sunday. The event, organised by Hospitality Action, involved a challenging 12 mile walk, and the pair successfully completed it, raising an impressive £227 for the cause.

Halloween Nights Programme
Dates: Saturday 26 October, Sunday 27 October, Wednesday 30 October, and Thursday 31 October 2024.

Concept:
Our annual Halloween spooktacular! Visitors can explore our museum as spooky characters take over. Meet a variety of Halloween characters, from witches to Frankenstein. See circus performers and join our fancy dress parade on the streets of the museum – led by a special Ghostbusters car. Visitors can join in with our selection of family friendly Halloween experiences – including our UV disco, our animal show, our walkthrough werewolf story experience and more! (these activities are limited capacity). Older visitors can visit our mine scare maze experience. And, of course, families can take part in trick or treating down in our trick or treat village!

Museum Closure – 16 to 18 October
A whole site filming booking at the Museum means that we will be closed to the public next week, from Wednesday 16 to Friday 18 October. We will be back open and welcoming visitors from Saturday 19 October.
What does this mean for you?
The Museum will be closed to all visitors and volunteers. It will remain open to office-based staff and some hourly paid staff, as communicated by line managers, and you can please park as you normally would in car park 2 (Tipton Road).
Staff in visitor-facing roles will have already heard from their line manager directly about what it means to them.
What do I need to be aware of?
The Boat Dock will be ‘out of bounds’ during this time. The walkway to Canalside offices will be closed to visitors – colleagues will be able to use this path to access the offices. There is no access from Canalside office to the village via the lifting bridge, as the green gates will be shut.
The Workers’ Institute, Elephant & Castle Pub and St. James’s School will all be used as green/catering spaces on the two shoot days, so please be mindful of this if you need access to them.
There will be a lot of vehicle movement across the whole site on all three of the closed days, so please be careful when you are moving around the Museum and try not to obstruct the film crew.
This is a high-profile production and we need to support the security of both the cast and storylines, so can we remind you not to engage with the cast of the production (please do not ask for photographs or autographs).
What should I say if a member of the public asks about the closure?
Please share this statement: “A whole site booking at the Museum has meant that we have needed to close to the public between Wednesday 16 and Friday 18 October. We will reopen Saturday 19 October.”

Reminder regarding feeding the cat
We recognise that the visiting cat has garnered lots of kind attention from both colleagues and visitors. While his presence does bring us joy, we do also need to be mindful that keeping animals away from food preparation and collections is extremely important. Therefore, we must kindly ask that we don’t encourage him by feeding him or leaving food out.
It has been identified that the cat has been fed in the Elephant & Castle Pub area and, over the past week, has been inside two of the enterprise units.
At this stage we are unsure who has been leaving food out for the cat, so we kindly ask all colleagues to refrain from doing so. Keeping him out of the buildings is important for maintaining a safe and hygienic environment for everyone.

Summer may seem long ago now but thank you to everyone who worked our Summer Lates.
Please take a few minutes to fill in our colleague survey and tell us about your thoughts on the event.
We had some good responses from visitors:
- 96% stated that the event was good or excellent.
- Great atmosphere, staff are all friendly and knowledgeable. Clean. Great fish and chips
- Staff all friendly. Went back in time and felt like you were actually there, amazing.
- 65% of people have a greater understanding of migration into the Black Country.
- 87% of people learnt something new about 1940s, 1950s & 1960s history.
- 89% of people felt that the museum represented their heritage.

Menopause awareness evening
We are pleased to announce a menopause awareness evening hosted by Wolves Foundation on Tuesday 15 October, from 6.15pm to 8pm.
The event will take place at Molineux Stadium, Waterloo Road, Wolverhampton, WV1 4QR. The talk will begin promptly at 6.30pm.
This informative session is aimed at raising awareness and providing support around menopause, and we encourage all interested to attend.
