Roll Up Your Sleeves – May Half Term.
During our May half term programme visitors had the opportunity to explore a range of occupations form the past. They met Alice or Albert Atkins who were about to leave their jobs at Mrs Gregory’s general store, to take a step up the ladder begin their new job as a servant at Himley Hall. Children and a few determined adults had the opportunity to experience what it was like to squeeze up a chimney as a sweep, while dressing for the job was all the rage in Hut 14. The number of activities for children to be involved with went down well.
What we did well:
• The jobs for children to trial. This was a new activity for us and great fun for our son.
• The interaction from the staff, they made our visit very special for our daughter. She got to complete a shopping list in the co-operative and gained job in the shop and was dressed up as a shop worker.
• Variety of activities to see and do, very welcoming atmosphere.
• The entire day was excellent, very impressed from start to finish.
• The staff are absolutely outstanding.
• Water outlet for topping up drinks containers
What we can learn from:
In general, visitors commented on:
• The closure of the mine
• Buildings being closed for lunch breaks
• Not at first oblivious which shops sold the items
• The bus not being able to transport a wheel chair
