    March Pay Date

    Please be advised that due to the Easter bank holiday, March pay date will be on Thursday 28 March 2024.

    To support you in planning your finances, please note that there will be a 5 week gap between February and March pay dates.

    As a reminder, the Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) can provide advice and tools on managing finances.

    You can access the EAP service by calling 0800 756 0861 and quoting ‘Black Country Living Museum’ and ‘Perkbox’ or you can access the EAP portal via the Perkbox app/webpage.

    Through Perkbox, you can also access a wide range of discounts on the items you already buy, helping you to make your money go further.

    Some good news!

    We are delighted to confirm that not only has the ticket swap returned, but we have also successfully added Chester Zoo, Shakespeare’s Birthplace, Bear Gryl’s Adventure, Edgbaston Park Hotel and Winterbourne House & Gardens to our list of partners!

    And what’s more… Blenheim Palace and Warwick Castle are back!

    For new colleagues, the ticket swap scheme is an annual ballot to obtain free tickets for one of the attractions listed below.

    Ballot slips are available from The Guide Hut, in communal areas and from the People & Culture Team.

    Please return ballot slips to the black post box located outside of the People & Culture Office no later than Friday 23rd February by 4pm.

    January Reset Training – Review

    Thank you to everyone who took part in the recent training sessions during January Reset. A big shout-out to those who contributed to the Team Exhibition – your involvement was key to the success of the event, and we appreciate your dedication to the Museum.

    We hope that you found the training both informative and engaging. Our aim was to provide valuable insights, an overview of your achievements, further learning that will support you in your role, and an opportunity to network with colleagues.

    To further support your understanding of the training content, we are pleased to share the All Colleague Briefing slides. A link to the slides can be found at the end of this article, please take some time at your convenience to review the material.

    We are also pleased to announce the continuation of our ‘Optional Development’ program, available until 30th April. The Museum will fund two hours of additional pay (hourly paid/casual) for iHasco training undertaken outside of contracted hours. A comprehensive list of courses is attached for your perusal. If a particular course captures your interest or you did not attend the Menopause and Autism training sessions but would like to learn more, kindly reach out to People & Culture at [email protected] via email to request assignment to that course. Upon successful completion, please notify the team via email.

    All Colleague Briefings – October 2023

    As part of our continual programme of ensuring engagement and communication across the Museum’s operational and strategic activity, we will be holding briefings to update all colleagues on the Museum’s progress and the plans for the remainder of 2023, a critical year following the opening of the row of six buildings in our new street.

    These briefings will take place on:

    • Wednesday 18th October 2023
    • Thursday 19th October 2023
    • Saturday 21st October 2023

    All the briefings will be held in the Museum’s Workers’ Institute, and will commence at 9.00, finishing at 9.30.

    • Many of you will already be scheduled by your line managers to attend one of these sessions. If you have not yet been scheduled, please contact your line manager.
    • All contracted colleagues are mandated to attend these sessions. We would also strongly urge colleagues from both our volunteer and casual community to all attend.
    • You only need to attend one of the briefing sessions.
    • Refreshments will be provided in the WI.

    Welcomes

    Earlier this month we welcomed Drew Rhodes, Site Cleaner, Megan Greaves, Enterprise Team Member (Gift), Chris Hough, Painter and Valarie Plummer, Little Makers Coordinator, all bring a wealth of experience to the Museum and we are glad to have them on board.

    We also welcomed a number of casual workers to our Enterprise Team, to support Events.

    Farewells

    We will be saying farewell Hannah Jameson (Development Coordinator), Hannah has secured a role at Compton Verney to be nearer to her family.

    Bonnie Wilkes (Enterprise Team Manager) will also be sadly leaving the Museum this month.

    We wish all our colleagues the best in their future endeavours.

    Sadly departed

    Our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Phil Vaughn (Historic Character Team) who sadly passed away earlier this month. Phil left the Museum in 2017 and will be greatly missed by all. If colleagues would like to enquire about funeral details please email [email protected].

  • Health & Wellbeing Group Presents – Mr Motivator Prize Draw (competition now closed)

    Thank you to everyone who entered our competition below, we have now secured our winners! 

     

    The Health & Wellbeing group have secured x3 pairs of tickets for Mr Motivator at Halesowen Town Hall  on Sunday 24 September 2023 at 10am-2pm.

    Mr Motivator and his Motivators bring to you ‘The Motivational Experience’, a day jam-packed full of activities aimed to improve your sense of wellbeing and make you smile.

    You will enjoy a variety of classes taught by Mr Motivator suitable for any age group, level of fitness and from a chair or standing, it’s up to you!

    Not only will The Motivational Experience help you to move more, but also includes motivational and stress talks, advice, and so much more including a fun session with the Motivators to give you that real party vibe. Don’t miss it!

    Come dressed prepared and ready to sweat, laugh and get motivated by the main man himself, MR MOTIVATOR!

  • We are the Black Country – introducing our new draft strategy

    Following the recent all-colleague briefings where the Museum’s draft strategy for 2024 – 28 was trailed, we hope you find this summary helpful in understanding our future direction and work.

    We’ve been working to develop this strategy since January and we are delighted that more than 1,500 people gave us their views, including colleagues, visitors and members, volunteers, Community Panel members and stakeholders like Arts Council England and West Midlands Growth Company. There was consensus that our vision and mission should have an external focus, and be about people and place which chimed with our desire to be ‘more than a museum’.

    We’re pleased to be able to share the headlines with you now but this will be a vital document for us to share with external audiences too in the new year, such as those who invest in us and work with us.

    New to this Strategy is a set of Guiding Principles that brings together the values prioritised by colleagues, volunteers and Trustees during the strategy consultation. We hope they will resonate with all of you, whatever your role or area of work, and that going forward they will be considered in all that we do.

    Next steps:

    • Leadership team and senior colleagues will shortly begin to work on more detailed delivery plans
    • During autumn, teams will use this as a basis on which to plan for 2024
    • Launched publically in early 2024.

  • Accessing the site – important information

    Accessing the site – important information

    Can everyone please remember that the metal vehicle gates at the side of the Visitor Centre should not be used to access/egress site after 10am even if they are open.

    These gates are on a timer and fitted with sensors, so while they would not cause injury, we do still need to lead by example and not encourage visitors to access site using this method.

    The pedestrian gate should always be used to gain access and entry from site during opening hours.
