  • Change of Security Provider

    Change of Security Provider

    Our current security provider, K2, will be leaving us after their final shift on Wed 28 June.

    Our new security provider, SNSG, will start their duties on Thu 29 June.

    From Thu 29 June, please may all colleagues use the new contact telephone number – 07535 458408 – if they need to contact the overnight guard. The phone number will be active between the hours of 6pm and 6am.

    From Thursday, colleagues will need to stop using the current K2 phone number.

    With the upcoming launch of Forging Ahead, our Interpretation and Research team has been working incredibly hard to perfect the details of all our Museum buildings, new and old.

    Please familiarise yourself with the new Directory of Museum buildings. When referencing buildings going forward, please refer to them by their correct name.

  • Windrush 75 & In Conversation with Vanley Burke – Programme Overview

    Event Overview 

    Windrush 75 

    Dates: Sat 24 June, 10am – 5pm

    On Sat 24 June, we will remember the Windrush generation. The day will offer immersive stories through collections, re-enactments and conversations with people from the Windrush generation.

    We have invited local community groups and individuals to deepen the conversation about post-war migration from across the Commonwealth and beyond. Whilst showcasing traditional activities throughout the Museum, they hope to engage with staff and visitors about their experiences of moving and settling in the Black Country.

    In Conversation with Vanley Burke 

    Dates: Thu 22 June, 2pm -4.30pm

    Concept: You are invited to join Vanley Burke, documentary photographer and author of ‘Home from Home’, in conversation on Thu 22 Jun in Hall 2.
    ⦁ Hear about Vanley’s insights and personal relationship with African Caribbean heritage.
    ⦁ See over 50 years of cultural collecting through Vanley’s photographs.
    ⦁ Discover the stories behind an array of Museum collections and how we will bring them to life.

    Row of Six Celebrations – New Date Added!

    Due to popular demand: Both dates are now fully booked.

    To save any disappointment, we kindly ask that if you have not yet put your name down on the sign-up sheets, you do not attend on these dates as there will be no vouchers printed for yourself, family and friends.

    We are now holding a third date on Monday 26 June, 5-7pm.

    Please park on car park 2 for the day so that car park 1 can be locked when the Museum closes.

    Food and Drink 

    You will be provided with a voucher that can be exchanged for a complimentary bap, pie or bag of sweets.

    There will also be complimentary prosecco in the Elephant & Castle and juice for children. Other drinks will be available to purchase.

    Staff & Family Celebration – Row Of Six Engagement Sessions

    As we near the opening of our new row of six buildings, you are invited to experience the new buildings and meet new characters before the street is open to visitors. You are welcome to bring a maximum of 3 guests (all ages welcome) and come in costume appropriate to the new development (40s-60s) if you so wish!

    There will be a chance to try some new food and drink offerings and complimentary light refreshments will be available.

    These sessions will take place on:

    • Monday 19 June 2023
    • Tuesday 20 June 2023

    All the sessions will be held in the new street and will commence at 5pm, finishing at 7pm.

  • ‘Keeping well at BCLM’ – Heath & Wellbeing Group

    ‘Keeping well at BCLM’ – Heath & Wellbeing Group

    ‘Keeping well at BCLM’ focuses on three key themes: Healthy Mind, Healthy Body, and Healthy Work.

     

    What will the ‘BCLM Health & Wellbeing Group’ do?

    The Health & Wellbeing Group (HWG) will focus on sharing ideas and opportunities to support ‘Keeping well at BCLM’. Members of the group will use their experiences, skills and knowledge to discuss various topics and create a diverse range of opportunities for all employees. Members will also plan events and put processes in place to support the well-being of all Museum colleagues.

    ‘Health & Wellbeing’ is key; members should be keen to make a contribution and be passionate about ensuring the project succeeds. We need a team who can be mutually supportive, essentially, WE NEED YOU!

     

    The initial meeting will be on Wednesday 14 June 2023.

    We will try and make sure meetings are non-disruptive to your working day, therefore if they do fall outside of your usual work hours. you will be paid for your time.

  • Forging Ahead Colleague Briefings

    We will be holding staff briefings to update all colleagues on the Museum’s progress, plans for the opening of our new street and the characters we will be unveiling.

    These briefings will take place on:

    • Monday 12 June 2023
    • Tuesday 13 June 2023
    • Wednesday 21 June 2023

    All the briefings will be held in The Brickworks and will commence at 9.00, finishing at 9.45.

    Many of you will already be scheduled by your Line Managers to attend one of these sessions, please volunteer your name on the attached signup sheet if you have not yet been contacted.

    All contracted colleagues are mandated to attend these sessions. We would also strongly urge colleagues from both our volunteer and casual community to all attend.

    You only need to attend one of the briefing sessions.

    Refreshments will be provided.

    We need your help! – Packaging Workshop: Tue 6th June (10am-3pm)

    Dear all,

    Our Collections and Research teams would like some help making historic packaging for the new development, specifically for the first row of shops in the heart of the new 1940s-60s town.

    We have a drop-in session on Tuesday 6th June from 10am – 3pm.

    You are welcome to pop in any time and don’t have to stay for the whole day. We have lots of boxes which require making up for the displays, so any help would be hugely appreciated.
