Changes in data law come into play on 25 May with the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The overall goal of GDPR is to safeguard people’s data and enforce data security rights.
What does it mean for BCLM?
We need to think about what personal data we collect, how we use it and ensure that the appropriate policies and procedures are in place to deal with the transparency, accountability and individuals’ rights provisions.
What does this mean for you?
There will be several new or revised policies which will be rolled out on the intranet by Friday 18 May:
- Data Protection Policy
- Retention Policy
- Data Breach Response Policy
We will be organising further staff training about the changes in data protection law but in the meantime, we ask that you read the new policies and procedures once they’re live and think about what you can do in your role to help ensure data privacy and security.
What does this mean for our visitors and supporters?
On Monday 21 May we’ll be updating the privacy policy on our website and asking all of our existing supporters who have subscribed to receive our e-news, to re-opt in to our mailing lists and view our new privacy policy.
