Earlier this year, Frank Skinner visited the Museum to film parts of The South Bank Show, which airs tonight (Wednesday 20th July, 22:00) on Sky Arts and NOW TV.
“In this South Bank Show, Frank talks to Melvyn Bragg about his working-class upbringing in Oldbury, West Midlands, his decision to embark on a career as a comedian at the relatively late age of 30, and the success that brought him. He also discusses his burgeoning TV work in the 1990s, presenting Fantasy Football League with his then flatmate and close friend David Baddiel, and his wildly successful chat show, The Frank Skinner Show, along with this decision to return to stand-up comedy in 2007, after ten years away, and how his work has developed over the years.
Frank also visits his childhood home, along with Our Lady & St Huberts RC Church in Oldbury, where his family would worship, and has an unexpected meeting with an old school friend. He discusses his strong Catholic faith with Melvyn, which he explored in 2021 when writing A Comedian’s Prayer Book.
In 2020, Frank also began presenting Frank Skinner’s Poetry Podcast, in which he immerses himself in a different poem each week. He talks to Melvyn about his passion for poetry, and also visits the Black Country Living Museum, in Dudley, West Midlands, for an encounter with local poet Liz Berry, who featured in the podcast and whom he admires greatly.
This is an in-depth, intimate and revealing look at the many facets of Frank’s life.”
