1940s Weekend (daytime)

Overall visitors loved the atmosphere, the music, the traders and the characters and re-enactors who invited participation. New additions were also well received: the representation of Indian servicemen and women, fashion show, more vehicles. Visitors were less positive about their experience in the car park, transport, queueing for food, disabled access and not enough tea! (Britain was built on the cuppa). Some visitors felt that re-enactors and characters were sometimes more engaged with the audience than with each other.
- 76% of visitors said the event was excellent – with a further 20% saying it was good.
- 66% of people learnt something about migration to the Black Country
- 80% of people felt they had an opportunity to participate
- 83% of visitors who had food and drink said it was good/excellent

- “Absolute assault on the senses, felt like if been transported back in time and the children were amazed by it all”
- “The effort made to provide entertainment, the re-enactors, staff and the whole atmosphere was lovely”
- “This is the best experience of my life, really take you back in time”
- “I would want more interaction with characters more characters in costume and to stay in character found it boring walking in and out no one there”
- “My only complaint is that there is not enough places to sit and have a cup of tea…we wanted wartime tea not in a take away cup”

Visitors enjoyed the entertainment and atmosphere on site, especially the D Day Darlings. Some visitors wanted more seating, both at the stages and for food and drink – as well as more food and drink outlets near stages and traders to reduce queues elsewhere.

- “Lots better having the music stages in a central position with the fair ground, it really added to the atmosphere.”
- “For the evening I would strongly recommend putting seats in front of all the stages. A lot of visitors were elderly and having to stand.”
- “More pop up drinks or tea areas around the stalls area and stage as long queues at pubs “
