Working at Height remains one of the biggest causes of fatalities and major injuries in the UK. Work at height means work in any place where, if there were no precautions in place, a person could fall a distance liable to cause personal injury.
Before working at height follow these simple steps:
- Avoid work at height where it’s reasonably practicable to do so
- Prevent falls by using the right type of equipment safely or by using an existing place of work that is already safe. Don’t overreach or use equipment that isn’t stable.
- Minimise the distance and consequences of fall by using the right type of equipment that you have checked is safe to use
If others are working at height then keep yourself safe and don’t enter any exclusion area that has been set up e.g. cones around areas where the Genie lift is operating. This is to prevent you being struck by anything that may be dropped from above.
Risk assessments must be in place before any work at height takes place so make sure you have read and signed any risk assessments for the task before you do it.
