  • Weekly Ops – how to get involved

Weekly Ops – how to get involved

With various new starters joining the Museum recently, we thought that it would be useful to remind everyone about our ‘Weekly Museum Activity Update’, also known as ‘Weekly Ops’.

It has been flagged in recent meetings that information is getting missed and attendance can be low. Therefore, please read the following information carefully and familiarise yourself with the current process of Weekly Ops.

    What is Weekly Ops?

Weekly Ops is a great form of communication for all teams across the Museum where you will find out what’s happening at the Museum over the next seven days.

Teams will individually share department headlines, new future dates for the diary and team updates – such as any annual leave, work-from-home requests and any absences – on a PowerPoint slide.

At least one member of each team is required to be present so they can share updates on specific projects.

    When is it?

Every Wednesday at 10am on Teams. Each team is required to fill in their slide by 5pm on the previous Monday. This is done via Teams – Weekly Museum Activity Update>General.

The latest PowerPoint slide will be available for you to edit at the bottom. Please see below:

How do I get on the invite list?

Your Line Manager will need to request an invite from Nick Sellers, Head of Museum Operations.

What do I do with the information?

By attending Weekly Ops, you are the representative for your team and must pass on key information to the rest of your team. Therefore, please take notes throughout. After receiving feedback, many teams communicate key information via an email to their team or via a separate Teams channel for their team. Use whatever works best for you and your team.

Any questions, please email [email protected].

  • BCLM Costume Policy

Earlier this year, the Historic Character and Costume Working Group reviewed and updated the Museum’s Costume Policy to make it more inclusive and relevant to Forging Ahead.

The team would like to brief all staff on the Costume Policy and inform all that the request forms, Costume Request Form and Specialist Costume Request form, are now available.

Additionally, if you require historic costume, you will need to complete one of the forms and have this approved by your supervisor or manager, who will forward it to the Costume Team.

Former Research and Interpretation Coordinator, Claire Robinson, prepared an informative presentation on the new policy. The presentation also includes the style guide Hayley and her team are working towards, and include advice/inspiration on hairstyles and accessories. Please read this thoroughly.

If you have any questions, please email [email protected]

    Thanks.

  • Mental Health Awareness Week

    Mental Health Awareness Week

Meet Kate, our Corporate Sales and Development Manager.

Kate Kirkpatrick is one of our Mental Health First Aiders at the Museum and spent some time discussing the importance of #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek. Here at the Museum, we pride ourselves on creating a safe and supported working environment for everyone.

Why is being a Mental Health First Aider (MHFA) important to you?

“Mental health is something that has touched my own family, and many people close to me. I believe having MHFAs available who are trained to deal with issues in the workplace is so important. It helps to provide an open and supportive culture around mental health encouraging more people to open up and get the help they need.”

How do you feel supported at the Museum?

“There are a number of MHFAs who have been trained for colleagues to speak to and there is a good support mechanism in place to ensure all employees feel able to share when they feel they are struggling. I also feel supported by my line manager and wider team, and we have an Employee Assistance Programme too.”

What advice do you have to someone who may be struggling?

“Speak to someone you trust and where possible, reach out to an MHFA, who will offer initial support and refer you to the most appropriate care needed.”

If you need to speak to someone, we have various MHFAs. More information can be found on flyers in staff areas.

We also have a quiet room above Doos if you need a safe space for reflection or a break.
