Membership Video
The Development Team would like to send a big thank you to Ed (our star!) and everybody who helped create our new membership video on 6th November: Bramwell, Dan, Anna, Janet, Sarah, Jordan, Hannah, Abby, Kirsty and the Bottle & Glass staff for letting us in early to film, and Jeni-May and the Hobbs Staff for whipping up some fake wrapped chips (sorry to spoil the illusion!).

Forging Ahead – Update

Museum Shop Festive Fridays are back
Museum Shop Festive Fridays begin Fri 29 Nov and will run until Christmas! You can get 25% off everything (except beers, wines, spirits and licensed Peaky Blinders merchandise).
Plus, we’ll stay open until 5pm to give everyone a chance to browse and purchase after our visitors have left.
If you don’t work Fridays, then please speak to Franc to arrange an alternative date (this must be pre-agreed before purchase).
Please help the Retail team who might not recognise everybody and have your blue fob ready when purchasing.
This discount is available to all BCLM Staff and Volunteers.

December Pay Date
This year’s December pay date will be Friday 20 December.
This will apply to both salaried and hourly paid colleagues.
Hourly paid colleagues will be paid for the four weeks ending 22nd December.
Casual holiday pay for the period from 30th September to 31 December will be paid in January 2020.

Winner at the Black Country Chamber of Commerce Awards
Black Country Living Museum won the Education & Business Partnership Award at the prestigious Black Country Chamber Awards held at Wolverhampton Racecourse on Friday 15 Nov.
The award recognises commitment to supporting future generations and was won by the Programming Team for their work with The Foundry Training Services during the annual Manufacturing @ Work event. 12 schools visited over two days and were treated to workshops by manufacturing professionals. It provided an opportunity for them to see and experience the manufacturing workplace and to hear from people with real life experience.

Updated Health and Safety Policy
The Health and Safety Policy has been reviewed and revised to reflect the recent changes in the Museum’s organisational structure and responsibilities for the management of health and safety. The updated policy, version 3.0, is available on the documents section of the staff intranet under policies along with the procedures for Risk Assessment, Incident Reporting and Investigation, First Aid and Fire & Emergency Evacuation. Hard copies of the Health and Safety Policy will be placed on staff notice boards.
Please familiarise yourself with any changes that may affect you.

Newspaper Appeal
With the arrival of the cold weather and darker afternoons we need your old newspapers to keep our braziers burning for longer during events and also for filming.
Please leave your used newspapers in the guide hut.

Planday Training for Historic Character Team
We have been using Planday for just over a year now. Planday is continually improving and updating its functionality and Team Managers from all Departments have recently taken part in training to ensure consistency in use across the Museum.
To help keep you up to date with the latest developments and to further help our integration as one Historic Character Team, we will be holding Planday Training on the following dates:
- Wednesday 20 November, 4:00pm to 5:30pm
- Thursday 21 November, 4:00pm to 5:30pm
- Friday 22 November, 4:00pm to 5:30pm.
The training will provide an opportunity to update you all on how Team Managers and colleagues can work together to improve communication and make best of Planday for rostering shifts, notifying availability and requesting holiday. We will also look at how best to use Planday across different Platforms – computer, tablet, smart phone etc.
We would like you all to attend. Even if you are an experienced user of Planday, please attend to keep up to date with the latest developments.
Please contact your Team Manager to notify them which date you would like to attend. Alternatively, signup sheets will be posted in the Staff Room above Doo’s and the Guide Hut.
Your time at the training will be paid.

Greenery Appeal 2019
It’s that time of year again when we start thinking about decorating the buildings ready for the festive season. We use traditional greenery for many of the houses and shops so we are appealing for your help.
Do you have rampant ivy or holly that needs pruning? Do you have excess Christmas/ fir tree cuttings? Or do you have other evergreen materials you can spare?
If you have any of the above we would be grateful for donations of greenery. The Santa Hunts and ‘Christmas in the Home’ start on Saturday 23 November this year so we will start preparing key buildings from Monday 18 November and continue the following week. We may also need additional greenery in December, to refresh the buildings.
If you can bring in any materials you can deposit them outside the staff Guide Hut and the Collections team will collect them.
During the festive period, once buildings are decorated, if you are looking for greenery to refresh your building we will store surplus greenery on the first floor of the Cast iron House.
