    We’re thrilled to report that interest for corporate volunteering continues to rise at the Museum! Our inquiry log is almost booked for Christmas as more companies recognise the value of contributing their time and talents.

    We’ve recently welcomed Trowers & Hamlins and Virgin Media, who worked alongside Pete and Joe, our Gardening Team, to help tackle important landscaping tasks to keep the Museum’s gardens tidy and presentable.

    Could your team help our corporate volunteers? Tasks could include: 

    • Maintenance and construction work
    • Communications material review
    • Administrative or policy guidance
    • Event setup/staffing
    • Packaging and prep work
    • Virtual workshops to share expertise

    We are pleased to announce the launch of our new ‘Useful Documents‘ page on the Museum Intranet.

    This new page provides easy access to important documents tailored to each colleague’s position and needs.

    Whether you are a volunteer or an hourly paid, casual or salaried member of staff, you can now quickly find the forms, policies, and guidelines relevant to you. Simply click on the tab for your category and you’ll find all the key documents you need access to compiled in one convenient place.

    Our aim is to save you time hunting down the proper paperwork, policies and procedures you need for your museum role.

    The password to log into our company intranet (intranet.bclm.com) has been changed. The new password is ‘musicshop‘ (without the quote marks).

    This password update was carried out as part of our regular security procedures to protect company resources and information. If you have any trouble accessing the intranet with the new password, please contact the IT department at either [email protected] or [email protected], for assistance.

    All Colleague Briefings – October 2023

    As part of our continual programme of ensuring engagement and communication across the Museum’s operational and strategic activity, we will be holding briefings to update all colleagues on the Museum’s progress and the plans for the remainder of 2023, a critical year following the opening of the row of six buildings in our new street.

    These briefings will take place on:

    • Wednesday 18th October 2023
    • Thursday 19th October 2023
    • Saturday 21st October 2023

    All the briefings will be held in the Museum’s Workers’ Institute, and will commence at 9.00, finishing at 9.30.

    • Many of you will already be scheduled by your line managers to attend one of these sessions. If you have not yet been scheduled, please contact your line manager.
    • All contracted colleagues are mandated to attend these sessions. We would also strongly urge colleagues from both our volunteer and casual community to all attend.
    • You only need to attend one of the briefing sessions.
    • Refreshments will be provided in the WI.

  • Peaky Blinders Nights – Staff Survey

    Thank you all to those of you who contributed to, worked on or came along with friends and family to our recent Peaky Blinders evenings.

    As ever, we really value your feedback, both as staff members to make sure you get what you need to do your job, but also about your impressions of how visitors responded.

    Please take 5 minutes to complete this survey.

    Visitor Survey Feedback: 

    • 86% Good or Excellent
    • 81% The performances I saw were interactive
    • 84% of people came because they are a fan of Peaky Blinders

    Qualitive data: 

    • “This year the actors had a bit more presence, the bank robbery coming into the pub was brilliant”
    • “If there were more food / Drink facilities available it would have made the night much better”
    • “We absolutely loved the wrestling, the atmosphere was brilliant, the staff were very friendly and posed for photos, the horse racing, the musicians…. I could go on and on!”
    • “I would print off a map as none were available. It is quite difficult to navigate in the dark.”
    • “Authentic, made us feel like was on the film set. Lots to do and plenty to eat and drink.”
    • “The music wasn’t from the era which I was looking forward to. I feel we paid to dress up and enter a nightclub as it was just focused on drinking and some singing.”

    The BCLM babies have arrived: let’s get knitting!

    As we are putting the finishing touches in place to our recreation of the Lea Rd Infant Welfare Centre, we have already welcomed in the “babies” who are to be weighed as part of visitor activity in the building. However, they really need some authentic 60s outfits and blankets to get properly settled in.

    Do you have any old knitted or flannel baby clothing at home which could be used to dress the babies?

    They are new-born size, so much of the donated clothes are too big for them. Bonnets, bootees, vests, dresses, matinee jackets and cot blankets would all be welcome. So dig around the attic, or get those knitting and crochet needles out.

    Safe Together at BCLM: Fire Safety

    Our Fire and Emergency Evacuation procedures have been updated to ensure the safety of all employees during a potential emergency evacuation.

    To enable this, the safety zones and assembly points have been updated. There will be eight zones, with the Visitor Centre and top of site becoming Zone 1, Rolfe Street becoming Zone 2 and the new 1940s-60s town being Zone 4, with other current zones moving up by one.
